Here's another "mailbox bird". This one was modeled after the carving I got a blue ribbon for in Sept. You can see it in an earlier posting on this blog.
The original one is wood -- this one is thinset mortar on a styrofoam armature.
This was a "swap"-- I made the bird and the mailbox owner, who is a painter, did a portrait of my 2 grandchildren. Posted by Picasa

These are delightful - I am inspired to research how you make the mortar stick to the styrofoam.
